Who are we?

Brooklyn Relief Kitchen at Old First is a volunteer-led organization founded by restaurant industry professionals to tackle food insecurity in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.   We prepare fresh cooked meals and relief boxes for distribution by our local frontline community partners.    

Our Food Drive:

Tuesday thru Saturday 10am-2pm we collect non-perishable food and cash donations. Look for us under the tent in front of Old First Reformed Church on 729 Carroll St at 7th Avenue.

Kitchen Closures

We will be closed on Thursday, February 18, 2021 and Friday, February 19. due to a predicted winter weather. As such, there will be no food deliveries to CHiPS or to Caribbean Women’s Health Association. We will return on Saturday, February 20.

West Indian American Day Carnival Association

We are happy to announce we will be assisting Brooklyn-based West Indian American Day Carnival Association (WIADCA). Their mission is to promote, develop and celebrate Caribbean culture, arts, history and traditions through year-round programs culminating in the annual, iconic West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn in Labor Day Weekend. Weather Closure

We will be closed on Tuesday, February 2, 2021 due to the predicted winter storm. As such, there will be no food deliveries to CHiPS or to St Marks Methodist Church. We will reopen Wednesday.

Equipment Wishlist

For your donation convenience Brooklyn Relief Kitchen has started an Amazon Wishlist for the items we most needed to fulfill our food relief mission. You can purchase items to ship to us directly, OR you can view the list, purchase locally and come on by to drop off and say hello.

We are gratefully accepting donations of food and cash at the Brooklyn Relief Kitchen Donation Tent, Tuesday thru Saturday 10am-2pm. You will find us in front of Old First Church on 7th Avenue and Carroll St.

Those in need may also receive non- perishable food here.

Volunteer

Brooklyn Relief Kitchen is staffed and managed by volunteers.  The kitchen is open from 6:30am to 2:30pm Tuesday thru Saturday. Volunteer hours are flexible but a consistent schedule is preferred.   

Kitchen

Experienced kitchen workers assist Chef Kate in the kitchen. Less experienced volunteers prep, portion food, clean, sanitize and sort donations.

Deliveries

Our volunteer drivers deliver food to our partnering frontline organizations using their own vehicles.

Food Drive

Weather permitting our food drive tent in front of Old First Reformed Church is staffed by volunteers Tuesday – Saturday 10am – 2:00pm.

Office

Volunteers with experience in non-profit fundraising, marketing, graphics, and website maintenance keep the proverbial gears turning.

Offsite Food Drive

If your organization, building, school or business would like to organize a food drive on our behalf we are very happy to assist you with signage, donation boxes, information flyers, donation jar, and donation pickup. This is especially important for us in the winter months!
